A BRAINTREE restaurant is still serving up the goods after winning a prestigious TV competition.

Caesars At The Dolphin, in Coggeshall Road, Braintree, was crowned the winner of an episode of Come Dine With Me: The Professionals.

Daniel Araitei, 32, took part alongside his fellow chef Fabio in the popular Channel Four Come Dine With Me spin-off, which sees competitors host the others and dish up a three-course meal.

Although the episode was filmed in October 2022, it didn’t air until May 2023, and the pair delivered a mouth-watering vegan menu, and took home the £1,000 cash prize.

With the success of the business, I went for a lunchtime bite at the eatery.

The ambiance within Caesars at The Dolphin is sophisticated and calming, at the time of my visit, there was a handful of other punters chowing down on some food whilst atmospheric music played in the background.

There is a whole host of delicious options to pick from a menu designed that celebrates the best of modern European cuisine according to the restaurant’s website.

If you want a starter, there’s the vegan tomato bruschetta with basil, pesto, bread and pickled onion, mushroom crostini, pork scotch egg, goat cheese bon bon’s with beetroot ketchup and more.

Some of the main courses include beetroot and goat cheese risotto, fried plaice fillet, gratin of cod, and braised pork belly.

There’s also a selection of pub classics, pizza and platters of shareable seafood.

For my brief but enjoyable outing, I kept things safe and predictable for myself, by ordering the chicken and sausage woodfire pizza which consists of cheese, sriracha, oregano.

I also went for a side of chips, but my eyes were bigger than my belly, as the large pizza was more than enough to satisfy my hunger.

In the lunch menu you could get two courses for £19 or three for £25 from Wednesday to Saturday 12pm to 4pm.

The total came to £23.50 for my meal and a drink of coke, which in my humble opinion was worth it.

I would definitely visit again to try out more of what's on offer.
