A PIZZA chain is bidding to open a new eatery in Colchester High Street... two years after withdrawing a similar plan.

Fireaway Pizza is a chain with more than 150 branches across the United Kingdom, starting as one London store which opened in 2016.

Fireaway wanted to open a new restaurant in Colchester High Street in 2021 as part of its huge expansion plan which saw its restaurants nearly double from 2021.

However, the plans – including a new signage featuring the Fireaway brand – were withdrawn without former comment, according to Colchester Council’s planning portal, in April 2022.

A series of planning applications were submitted by Jack Kenworthy who sought after installing new signage featuring the Fireaway brand and a new shopfront on what was former opticians in High Street.

Now Fireaway Pizza is putting in a bid for a store on 132 High Street which used to be the Colchester Dry Cleaners.

The site is a triple-storey building with a currently unused basement and already has an entrance door “wide enough” to be easily accessible for people with disabilities.

The plan also stated there would would be four full time employees and three part time employees.

The proposal also says that from Monday to Sunday, including Bank Holidays, the eatery would be open from 11am to 1am and that as a “small business venture” that “noise should really be kept to a minimum”.

The proposal asks for the vacant site to be turned into both a restaurant and takeaway.

The proposed signage would be non-illuminated and show the orange Fireaway logo with lettering against a black background.

While the advertisement period stated is from July 31, 2024 to June 30, 2028.

Fireaway Pizza has a branch in Ipswich as well as branches in Basildon, Southend and Harlow.

The brand is well-known for its ‘Nutella pizza’ as well as its 400c oven which cooks pizzas in about 180 seconds.
