TORY candidate for Colchester James Cracknell made 'no promise' to ditch planned coverage of the upcoming Olympics if he were to be successful in becoming the city's next MP.
Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has revealed plans for “wall-to-wall” coverage of the Olympics, which begin later this month in Paris.
A presenting line-up has been announced including Boris Becker, Fabien Hambüchen, Fanny Rinne, Laura Woods, Ugo Moyne, James Cracknell, Tom Daley, and Carolina Klüf.
Speaking to the Gazette, Mr Cracknell said: “I have not thought past tomorrow, either way, but if I win, I can’t say I can do.
“If I lose tomorrow, I will have other things to do."
Mr Cracknell said WBD knew about the elections date, adding how he told the company that the election is “taking priority”.
When asked if he knew whether this news would come out before the election, Mr Cracknell said: “The only person who knew about it put that way was the Labour party.
“Funny enough they have more time to scan my name through Google."
Mr Cracknell also said he hasn’t spoken about it because he has been “knocking on doors”.
When asked if he would not take part in the coverage if elected as MP, Mr Cracknell said: “I cannot make a promise as I do not know what I am going to be doing in two week’s time."
Mr Cracknell also said he might have to “p*ss off Discovery” if he does win being prepared to talk about the “contract” but not being able to promise to get out of it.
He added that as he has been thinking about “Labour, Reform, and the Liberals”, he “hasn’t even thought about the Olympics”.
“My priority is Colchester and that is now and if I win. If I lose next week, I do not know what I am doing," he said.
James Cracknell is standing in Colchester in the upcoming General Election for the Conservatives. Also standing are Pam Cox (Lab), Martin Goss (Lib Dem), Terrence Longstaff (Reform UK), James Rolfe (Climate Party) and Sara Ruth (Grn).
