Leisure World Colchester has announced its summer holiday camps for children will begin later this month.

The Ofsted-rated camps are for children aged 5-12 years old and will take place from Wednesday, July 24 to Friday, August 30.

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday sessions will be held at Leisure World Colchester with Wednesday and Friday sessions at Colchester Sports Park.

The revamped camps will offer a programme designed to engage, educate and entertain children.

They will include trips to Colchester Castle, Castle Park, the Natural History Museum, and coaching sessions with British Cycling and the Colchester & Districts Archery Club.

Each week, participants can choose from themed weeks intended to cater to every child's interest.

From July 29 to August 3, children can participate in a variety of activities such as BMX biking, trampolining, basketball, netball, badminton, handball, table tennis, and volleyball during Summer Sports Week.

From August 5-9, children can delve into Colchester's history with arts and crafts, sporting sessions, and a trip to Colchester Castle during History Week.

Children will have the opportunity to travel back 2,000 years and explore ancient treasures and interactive exhibits at Britain’s first city and former capital of Roman Britain.

Nature Week from August 12-16 will provide interactive activities like nature bingo, clay modelling, scavenger hunts, and a Mobile Animal Zoo experience on August 14.

As well as hands-on encounters, there'll be educational talks to learn about conservation and animal habitats.

Magic and Mystery Week from August 19-23 will feature group puzzle games, fancy dress competitions, and problem-solving activities.

Finally, Music Week held from August 27-30 will see children express their creativity through playing or performing various musical instruments.

Cllr Martin Goss said: "Our holiday camps provide a fun, safe, and educational environment where children can enjoy their summer holidays to the fullest.

"With our new themes and activities, we’re confident that this summer’s camps will create lasting memories and help children develop new skills, interests, and friendships."

All activities are supervised by "experienced and enthusiastic staff".

Spaces are limited, and early registration is recommended.
