A CHARITY football match is set to take place to remember a much loved player who died in a fatal collision.
Chayse West, 18, suffered a severe head injury after being hit by a vehicle which failed to stop on the B1027 in Elmstead Market.
He was rushed to hospital following the incident in the early hours of September 18 but tragically died two days later from his injuries.
The Chayse West Legacy, which was set up by his family following his death, is hosting a fundraising event this summer.
It hosts a tribute event each year, to raise awareness and funds for the charity which supports bereaved families.
The Chayse West Fest will take place on August 25 from 12pm in Spring Lane, Colchester.
The family fun day will consist of a 5-a-side football tournament, at £20 per entry, as well as a raffle, bouncy castle and face painting for the children, music, and food stalls.
Chayse's mother Leah West said: “Chayse loved football, so the event will centre around the 5-a-side tournament.
“Chayse would’ve loved something like this, he’d have been the first to get involved if it had been one of his friends.
“It’s a great way to remember him and to raise money for his charity."
Ticket entry to the event is £5, with under 14s going free, and parking will be available at the venue.
Leah added: “We want to keep Chayse’s memory alive.
“I think every parent that goes through something like this is worried that they’ll be forgotten, but with us creating this it’s ensuring that will never happen.
“Chayse’s name will always be out there and remembered."
Chayse was tragically killed when he was hit by a car in Elmstead Market after leaving a birthday party in Colchester.
The 18-year-old had been walking to his family home in Alresford before he was hit by a vehicle being driven by John Shepherd, 37.
Mr Shepherd, who was subsequently sentenced for failing to stop and failing to report an accident, had been driving the car using dipped headlights.
