A SCHOOL chef is celebrating after cooking up a storm in a national competition.

Aron Jordan, who works at Doucecroft School, in Eight Ash Green, near Colchester, was one of just 12 finalists in the School Chef of the Year competition, after winning the East of England regional heat.

He competed in Birmingham against finalists from across the UK, narrowly missing out on the national crown.

The regional finalists took part in the national final at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

The competition, which is sponsored by Bisto, is open to all kitchen staff involved in the daily preparation of pupils’ meals in schools across the UK and aims to demonstrate the importance of high-quality cooking in schools.

Competitors had to prepare, cook and present four portions of a main course and dessert with a total food cost of £1.60 per head in 90 minutes.

Regional final winners each received a £100 cash prize, and the winner of the national final received £1,000.
