FUNDRAISERS dressed up as popular superheroes as they helped raise thousands for a Colchester autism charity.

Synergy Cosplay, which has been supporting Autism Anglia since 2021, has raised an incredible £15,000 to support the work of the charity.

The group was founded by Vicky and Dave Floyde, from Manningtree, and now has more than 600 members who dress as characters from Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, and many more for fun and entertainment at various events.

After their son was diagnosed when he was six years old, Vicky and Dave realised that Dave himself is autistic and their daughter is currently going through a diagnosis.

Synergy Cosplay has been supporting the Autism Anglia since 2021, and as well as raising vital funds it helps raise the profile and understanding of autism.

Vicky said: “Dave and I created the group with the idea of bringing together some amazing people from across all walks of life.

“We have a huge amount of members on the spectrum, and all of them enjoy the release and happiness that cosplay gives them."

She added: “It gives us such an amazing feeling when you can see how happy you have made adults and children alike when they meet their favourite character and have the chance to be a big kid themselves.

“We are so very proud of our cosplay journey so far and we are so excited for what the future brings for us too.”

Synergy Cosplay’s support was recognised when the founders were invited with their family to a recent Autism Anglia event, where they were presented with a certificate and flowers by the charity’s chief executive James McQuiggan and chairman Any Beevers.

James said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to thank Dave and Vicky for all their hard work raising such a huge amount of money for the charity over the past couple of years. We are incredibly grateful to them and all their members for their ongoing support.

“Autism Anglia relies on the support of our community to ensure we can improve and enhance our services for autistic people.”
