POLICE have arrested two men believed to be carrying a knife and a gun in Hythe Hill.

The road was cordoned off at 9.30pm on Saturday evening after a man approached officers in Victory Road to say he had been threatened with a knife.

After the victim gave officers a description of the suspect and their vehicle details, police tracked down two men in their 20s and arrested them on suspicion of possessing a bladed article and on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

Both weapons were recovered from the scene and the cordon was lifted shortly before midnight.

A full statement from a police spokesman read: “At about 9pm on Saturday 13 July, our officers were approached by a member of the public in Victory Road, Colchester, who stated he had been threatened with a knife.

“The victim provided a description of the suspect and a vehicle which officers quickly located.

“Two men in their 20s have now been arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article and on suspicion of possessing a firearm. 

“Our officers have also recovered a knife and a suspected firearm form the scene.

“We believe this is an isolated incident and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.”
