THREE green areas in Colchester have received the prestigious Green Flag Award for 2024, including Castle Park.

High Woods and Colchester Cemetery were the further winners alongside Castle Park, who were awarded by Keep Britain Tidy.

The three winners from 2024, were the three Colchester based winners from previous years in 2023 and in 2022.

Colchester City Council said that “here in Colchester we have some of the very best parks around”.

Keep Britain Tidy is a cause that works with local authorities, partners and volunteers to eliminate litter, end waste and improve places across the country.

Wivenhoe Park, in the Essex University grounds, has also been awarded the Green Flag Award for an eighth successive year.

Mick Minshull, Head of Grounds at the University of Essex, said: “To have won the Green Flag Award eight years in a row is an outstanding achievement and something the whole team can be extremely proud of.

“A lot of hard work goes into maintaining and preserving Wivenhoe Park, and I cannot thank my team enough for the commitment they show to ensuring it always looks its best, regardless of the weather."
