FORMER Colchester United goalkeeper Owen Goodman has joined AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan from Premier League side Crystal Palace.

The 20-year-old shot stopper could face the U's for Wimbledon on the opening day of the new League Two campaign, after linking up with ex-Colchester favourite Johnnie Jackson at Plough Lane.

Goodman told the AFC Wimbledon website: “I’ve seen a lot of keepers come here and do well in the past, so that’s what I’m aspiring to.

“I’ve heard nothing but positive things about the club.

"Bayzo is a character with an abundance of energy that is really going to drive me on to achieve great things.

“I feel that I’m a goalkeeper that can pulls off saves that others can’t make.

"I played 40 odd games in this league last season, so I feel excited for what the future holds for me with Wimbledon.

"The fans really get behind the team, it creates a terrifying atmosphere for the opposition."

Goodman was one of the U’s highest appearance makers last season, after joining them on a season-long loan from Palace.

He played 40 league and cup games, in what was his first loan move away from Palace.

Jackson told the AFC Wimbledon website: “We’ve had to be patient to get Owen in but we were always really sure that he is the man we want.

"It’s great to get him in with the group.

"He’s experienced the level after having a good spell with Colchester last season. Crystal Palace have really high hopes for him.

"It’s a natural progression for him to come and join us and hopefully he will be a big player for us.

"We now have two really good goalkeepers in the building.”
