IT'S by no means recent, but Colchester's impressive scene for music, arts, and culture continues to grow.
I've showcased thousands of events through the Keep Colchester Cool project I launched in 2009.
Now, I'll bring the best events to you each week which I recommend checking out.
Here are my five recommendations for music, arts, and culture in Colchester in the week ahead.
This Saturday, I'm hosting another Keep Colchester Cool showcase gig in collaboration with Colchester Arts Centre.
The nights feature artists who contribute to Colchester's vibrant music scene.
You can catch Lianne Kaye, Flores Blue, Georgie Roots and Daniel Stephen Turner at the Colchester Arts Centre performing live.
Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets are £7.
It's only a few weeks since Fraser Morgan sold out the Arts Centre at his 1000th show, but true to his DIY ethos, he's back playing in Colchester on Sunday at the Victoria Inn pub.
If the weather is good, he'll play outside in the beer garden, making it even more special.
Starts at 5.30pm, it's free entry.
Laura Wright first gained fame as the Young Chorister of the Year at 15 and has become one of the decade's best-selling classical artists.
One Night Only: Laura Wright will feature songs from hit musicals, special guests, and comedy moments.
This exclusive gala performance at The Mercury Theatre on Wednesday will raise funds for Open Road, which provides information, support and advice services to anyone affected by drugs and alcohol.
The event starts at 7.30pm. and general tickets are £25.
Big Richard makes his first appearance at Three Wise Monkeys, bringing with him his firstborn son Brìe.
With their recent release, "Abinger Hammer," Brìe is slowly spreading its lactose punk across the UK.
Joining them are GegenPress, who are starting to make some big waves in London with their oddball punk.
Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets are £7.
Finally, Friday Night Funk for Saturday Night Groovers is the name of the game at Three Wise Monkeys on Friday.
The DJ line-up is one of the best, with Perry Louis from Shiftless Shuffle and Messin' Around playing a funk and boogie set.
Dean Hurd, Dave Malone, Carwyn Jones, and Abi Bilesanmi join Perry will be on the turntables, and it starts at 8pm.
Advanced tickets are £10.
