DANNY Cowley said he was 'blown away' by the turnout for Colchester United's annual Open Day today.

Hundreds flocked to the venue for the popular annual event at the JobServe Community Stadium, where U's head coach Cowley and his first-team squad were all in attendance.

Colchester's players took part in a training session with youngsters, signed autographs and also had their pre-season photoshoot, where the club's brand new kit was unveiled.

Cowley said: "It's been a great day.

"We've been blown away by the number of people that are here today.

"It's great to see everybody and to see the energy that there is for the football club.

"It's brilliant to see such an energy and enthusiasm for this wonderful football club."

U's chairman Robbie Cowling added: "It's been a brilliant turnout so thank you everyone for coming today.

"Everyone attached to this club should be proud that we can do a day like this and we do it really, really well.

"What's evident is the Danny and Nicky (Cowley) factor.

"You can see from today that there's a lot of enthusiasm and there's a lot more people here than usual.

"It's credit to the guys for what they've already done for us."
