HIGH demand means Colchester Hospital is set to get a second Costa coffee shop... just metres from its first one.
A second Costa Coffee branch at Colchester Hospital, in Turner Road, is currently being developed and is due to open "early August"
The hospital already has a large Costa Coffee branch, which is operated by WH Smith, situated near the front entrance of the hospital.
The existing branch has a large space and seating for customers to dine in.
However, this second forthcoming branch won't have seating for customers and will offer a click and collect facility with the option to pre-purchase goods.
The new Costa Coffee, which will also be operated by WH Smith, is being built further into the hospital’s main building.
It is going to be sat next to the hospital’s Stock Shop.
A large Costa Coffee sign has been set up next to two double doors where the work is being carried out.
There is also a small sign that says ‘Costa Coffee fit out’ as building work is underway.
A spokesman for WH Smith has commented on the opening.
They said: "The new Costa coffee within Colchester Hospital is due to open early August.
"This is in addition to the units currently operated by WH Smith and will help ensure as quick a service as possible at peak times for staff, patients and visitors to the hospital."
Nick Sammons, the director of estates and facilities at the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, has commented on the new branch.
He said: “A new Costa coffee café will be opening soon for patients, visitors and our staff next to The Stock Shop near to the main entrance at Colchester Hospital.
“We know there is high demand for the retail facilities on site and wanted to ease the pressure.
"It will provide a more efficient option than the existing Costa near the main entrance doors, which will remain for people who want to prioritise sitting down and relaxing.”
