A “CLASSY and cool” Leigh restaurant is celebrating after being named as one of the top 100 in the whole UK.
Food Leigh-on-Sea, in Leigh Road, has picked up the accolade after impressing “undercover inspectors” who visited restaurants across the country to try food and select the very best from 60,000 nominations.
The Michelin guide restaurant’s menu is inspired by the seasons and changes on a daily basis depending on the locally sourced fresh produce available.
Earlier this year, Michelin-starred TV chef Michel Roux Jr visited the restaurant as part of a new TV series “Roux Down the River” - meeting head chef Liam Lingwood and seeing the business in action.
Chef and owner John Lawson is the driving force behind the restaurant and brings experience from working across the world with some of the best in the industry.
He said: “To maintain our standing in the Good Food Guide and as a Michelin Plate restaurant is never easy; we are regularly inspected and our team has to perform to the highest standard at every service which they do.
“Our head chef Liam Lingwood is continually creating new tasting menus and menu du jour, changing with the seasons to impress our guests.
“This latest award ‘best local restaurant’ is a reward for all the hard work and creativity that goes into our restaurant every day. I am so proud of Liam and the team and all their efforts.”
The Good Food Guide highly praised the restaurant, branding it as “classy and cool”, “just great food”, and “original, packed full of flavour, and presented with care”.
Head chef Liam, 33, added: “It is an amazing achievement to be named in the top 100; I feel very privileged to work with some amazing suppliers and also a super talented team that work hard every day to achieve what we do.
“We use the best local suppliers to the restaurant, we are organic and gluten-free too; I think this makes us stand out from other restaurants.
“It has taken a lot of hard work, a lot of hours, and lots of great memories to get where we are.
“We are just so happy to be recognised.”
Foodies are also quick to praise the restaurant on TripAdvisor, with one stating: “Outstanding. Been to quite a few places over the years and this one ranks at the top. It is a gem of a place and will definitely go back for more.”
