A PURR-FECT new venue has opened in Colchester as a nearby business has expanded to the city centre.
The new adoptable cat café, Meow Cat Café, can be found in Eld Lane, inviting visitors to come and spend some time with its adorable four-legged residents.
Business owner Rebecca White, 27, first opened the café of the same name in Halstead High Street last year after a trip abroad, which has been a huge hit in the town.
She said: "I went to Poland, and I visited a cat café over there - It just set something off in my head.
“When I got home, I applied for a government grand, which luckily, I got,
“There were no adoptable cat cafes in Essex so it’s something a bit different."
Following the site's success in Halstead, Rebecca made the ‘logical’ decision to open a second café in Colchester.
“Most of our customers come over from Colchester, and it's closer for a lot of the staff so it seemed the most logical,” Rebecca said.
The site enjoyed a grand opening on Friday.
The new café aims to offer the community a place to ‘chill out’ and ‘unwind’, as well as giving homeless cats and kittens the opportunity of finding their forever home through a partnership with the Friends of Felines animal shelter.
Members of the public have already adopted 205 cats from Halstead’s café in just over a year.
Rebecca said: “I’m so proud to be able to give these cats the opportunity of adoption.
“Most of the cats we bring in are from UAE, so they would’ve been sent to a kill centre.
“But you don’t need to come with the intention of adopting, just come along and chill with the cats."
Colchester’s new Meow Cat Café currently has 15 cats, including Celeste, Bunny, Kinder and Audrey.
More were due to arrive at the new site over the weekend.
The café also offers a range of refreshments, including hot and cold drinks and food.
