AN established Scottish duo are preparing to perform in Colchester at a forthcoming festival.

The charismatic sibling duo Patrick and Gregory Kane formed the well-known 80s group, Hue and Cry, back in 1984.

The pair have spoken to The Gazette ahead of Saturday’s 80s Calling Festival.

Hue and Cry will be performing in Lower Castle Park on August 3, whilst The Human League tops the bill and there will also be appearances from Bananarama, Level 42, The Farm, and The Christians.

By 1987, Hue and Cry had released their acclaimed debut record Seduced and Abandoned which featured their first top ten UK charts single, Labor of Love.

After numerous records, the band has sold tens of thousands of concert tickets worldwide and appeared on stages alongside Simple Minds, James Brown, and Madonna.

The brothers have teased what fans can expect from their Colchester performance.

Pat jokingly said: “Number one, full nudity. Two, personal fireworks.

“To be serious, they will get a combination of our top hits played in both sensitive acoustic form but also, we run it through synthesisers, and sequencers, and do electronic renditions of our classic songs.

“There are also some new songs as well.

“We call it electro-acoustic because it has the acoustic sensibilities but also has quite a lot of heft, people will be able to dance which we encourage.

“It is quite an exciting thing”.

As brothers, it would be easy to imagine that a sibling rivalry may make being in a successful band more difficult when creating music, but according to the pair, it's gotten better over the years.

Pat said: “It was hard at the beginning, but it has gotten easier as it went along and now it is fantastic.

Greg said: “As long as I do what I’m told, it usually works out fine.”

Pat replied: “Give us peace!

“No, it’s fine as long as I do what I’m told.

“It’s fantastic, it was spiky at the beginning as brothers can often love or hate each other with equal intensity, we’ve turned the dial all the way to love.”

Greg joked: “It makes everyone sick around us.”

Pat said: “The music business is super stressful, so combine youth and sibling intensity and the pressures of having hit records.

The band is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary and is due to release a new record in 2025.
