A MAN has been charged as part of a police investigation after a teenage boy suffered “multiple stab wounds” following a serious assault.

Police officers were called to Hatcher Crescent, in Colchester, at around 6.15pm last Monday, July 22, following reports of a “boy being assaulted”.

After speaking to witnesses, police believed five men assaulted the teenager before leaving the scene in a silver Vauxhall Astra.

The teenager, 17, was taken to hospital after sustaining multiple stab wounds.

Police said his injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.

Vincent Vata, 23, of Capon Road, Colchester, has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Det Insp Paul Olney, of Essex Police, said: “This investigation has moved quickly and I’d like to thank the public for their support whilst we have carried out enquiries in the area.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.”

The accused's first court appearance date is yet to be set.
