VISITORS to a charity event in Colchester's Castle Park were greeted with glorious weather as they enjoyed live performances.

The second ‘Charity Festival’ organised and supported by the Rotary Club of Colchester took place on Sunday at Colchester Castle Park’s bandstand.

Community music groups Chorus Iceni, 1st Class Brass, and Funky Voices assembled for the event.

Fifteen charities were also at the event, reporting a good turnout and interest in their work, and the music attracted large audiences.

The event was supported by a grant from Colchester City Council and was the result of an idea by Nigel Hildreth and member of the Rotary Club.

He said: “This was a wonderful, relaxed and engaging way to introduce community groups and charities to the people of Colchester.

“We are grateful to Colchester Council and to Colchester Arts Centre for the use of their PA system.”

All the charities reported a good turnout and interest in their work and the music on the bandstand attracted the audiences.

While Mr Hildreth said the hope is that this festival, bringing music and charities together for Colchester, becomes an annual fixture.
