A beloved toy store celebrated its comeback in June by opening inside a city centre retailer.

We have taken a look inside the new Toys R Us “shop-in-shop", which opened in WHSmith in Lion Walk.

The toy retailer filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and the nearest branch in Ipswich closed a year later and has sat empty ever since.

The new store is located on the first floor of the store, filling the shelves of half of the floor with colourful puzzles, games and toys.

It has the typical Toys R Us branding with dark blue and orange and yellow stars.

Since it has been a while since I was playing with toys and would have gasped in awe at these filled shelves, it was interesting to see what kids these days would put on their Christmas wish lists for Santa.

But as it seems, some favourites have remained, such as Lego, Playmobil, Barbies and classic board games.

So it is fair to say, even adults and older children will find something while wondering around.

As a keen fan of board games, I was happy to see Jenga, Connect 4, Snakes and Ladders and Cluedo represented.

Any Monopoly fans will definitely face a tough choice, as there are a number of versions on sale, ranging from the latest “knockout” version, to movie and celebrity themes.

A dedicated arts and crafts section is also present, offering a range of diy-experiments and creative games for boys and girls.

At a little Lego play and build area young creatives can give free rein to their imagination.

Older fans of the toy bricks will be delighted to see the range of Technic and Botanical editions, which could be a great gift, too.

With the holiday and travel season already on our doorstep, I stumbled across a new card game I added to my home collection.

5 Alive is a new twist on the classic “21” game, for up to six players, and will definitely go on holiday with me.

Besides the small size of the store, it offers a convenient stop for any last-minute birthday and Christmas shopping.
