A ROCK choir group for children is bringing music, fun and learning to Mersea Island this summer.
Voxygen is a children's rock choir, offering fun and exciting weekly sessions as they work towards a summer show.
The group is offering a ‘Summer Club’ event, where youngsters will learn a rock song and film a music video in August.
Lianne Kaye Binnington, the founder, choir leader, vocalist and teacher, launched the choir in April.
She said: “It’s still new, but the kids have already played a show backed by a professional live band and are set to perform at Mersea Regatta too.
“Voxygen was created out of a passion for seeing kids thrive through the power of performing, and a real love for singing and rock music.
“It does amazing things for children’s confidence.”
Lianne continued: “As the founder, I’ve been teaching children for the last seven years how to develop their music skills and build their confidence to new heights through engaging and exciting lessons.
“As a musician, I asked myself what is missing in a normal choir setting? What could make a group vocal lesson more exciting, and a real experience for children in particular?’
“That’s when it became clear.”
Lianne says there are many adult choirs, but she saw a gap in the area for a choir for children.
She created Voxygen to give children the chance to learn "invaluable vocal skills, sing rock songs that will inspire them and give them a huge boost of confidence", and work towards an amazing summer and Christmas show where they can perform backed by a professional live rock band.
Lianne said: “I could not be prouder of this creation.
“I’m so passionate to make each child’s experience one they will never forget.
Voxygen’s Summer Club event runs on August 26 and 27, from 9am to midday at the WI Hall, West Mersea.
Children can sign up at www.voxygenkidschoir.com for £30, and spaces are also available for the autumn term.
