A Colchester charity supporting the city’s Parachute Regiment is hosting an exclusive dinner event.
Support Our Paras is inviting residents to take an exclusive peek behind the scenes of a vital charity for the regiment.
Some of the highlights of the evening include a display by British Army parachute display team the Red Devils, who are also performing at this year’s Clacton Airshow.
Support Our Paras spokesman Isobel Padmore said: “The event will be a perfect opportunity for those that might not have links to the military to see such a big part of Colchester’s history and culture.
“Support Our Paras is the only charity which exists solely to support the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces, looking after veterans, serving soldiers and families within our airborne community.
“We are there for our nation’s paratroopers through the good times and the bad, from the moment they join our family to the sounding of the last post.”
Guests can try on kit and equipment used by the Parachute Regiment on their missions, and meet the Support Our Paras charity team.
A special heritage display will explain the history of the base and regiment in Colchester.
Colchester mayor Lesley Scott-Boutell chose to support Colchester Pride, Guts UK, ESPCA Essex Mid and North Branch, the Royal Association for Deaf People, and Support Our Paras as her mayoral charities.
The ‘Evening Behind the Wire’ will take place at the Merville Barracks in Circular Road South on August 28 between 4.30pm and 9.30pm.
Tickets cost £28, which includes a curry dinner in the evening.
Tickets can be bought online at supportourparas.org/events/an-evening-behind-the-wire.
