A PETRIFIED couple are “living in dread” at a Canvey static home park after claiming they have been hit with an eviction notice.

Alan Slawson, 76, and his 75-year-old wife Sandra claim they were ordered to leave Thorney Bay Village at the end of April and fear they have nowhere else to go.

The couple revealed the threat of eviction is putting them under huge stress, with Alan already suffering prostrate cancer, recently having a stroke as well as having glaucoma in one eye.

Sandra suffers with type two diabetes, osteoarthritis in the knees and issues related to high blood pressure.

In a letter seen by the Echo, Mr Slawson was told by legal firm Cunningtons that his tenancy was “being brought to an end”.

Thorney Bay Village is run by managing agents the Ambassador Group and owned by Thorney Bay Park LTD.

All the companies involved have been repeatedly contacted by the Echo over the last week about the situation but have failed to respond.

Having filled out five forms to Castle Point Council, who have attempted to support the couple for housing, Alan fears he could end up in a B&B or a hotel, which “would be the end of us.”

He said: “We are now in the position of possibly being made homeless and are both dreading the thought of it.

“At the moment, it is so worrying, we are worried out of our skins as we had heard about families being put in hotel rooms because nothing else could be found. We could never live there, and we could never do a BnB. My wife went to the doctor and has been put on anxiety medication because they are saying this is going on, it has caused that for her.”

The section 21 has not just impacted the Slawsons, with other people living on the park similarly affected.

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I would never have moved here if I knew it was being redeveloped.

“I have suffered with poor mental health and it has done no good for that, I don’t want to get up in the mornings.”

Independent councillor, Rob Lillis, responsible for health wellbeing and housing said: “Although the council cannot comment on individual cases, we will always strive to support our residents to the best of our ability. Any households under the threat of homelessness will be granted the appropriate duty within homelessness legislation whereby we will work with the household by issuing a personal housing plan.”
