A COLCHESTER pub is set to finally reopen after being closed for a week after it was hit by a gas leak.

The Rovers Tye, in Ipswich Road, is reopening its doors tomorrow after a gas leak last Thursday.

Rovers Tye, which is owned by brewing company Greene King, is a well-known dining spot for residents and serves traditional pub food, a wide range of drinks, and shows many big sport matches.

The site is dog friendly and has a beer garden outside the front.

It’s normally open Tuesdays to Saturdays 11am to 11pm and Sundays 11am to 10.30pm.

However, after the incident occurred last Thursday, the pub bosses confirmed on Facebook it was closed.

It said: “Unfortunately, we have had to close our doors once again due to a further gas leak.

“We are working hard with the maintenance team to sort the problems.”

Rovers Tye bosses hoped to reopen last Friday but was not able to.

Signs have been placed around the business’s windows, stating the pub has “to remain closed”.

It references that “further works” will continue to take place to ensure the Rovers Tye can “open as soon as possible in the safest possible way.”

It also apologises for the closure and says, “we hope to see you all soon”.

Rovers Tye took to Facebook again on Tuesday to announce it can finally reopen.

It said: “We are so excited to announce we will be reopening on Thursday.

“Join us for Poker from 7pm, burgers, and lots of great drinks offers.

“We can’t wait to open those doors, we’ve missed you.”

Highwoods ward Councillor Jocelyn Law said she was looking forward to the reopening. 

She said: “I think it is really important all companies make sure their premises are safe for customers to use, I’m sure there would have been an inspection.

“It is important we have spaces likes this where people can go and can make social connections.

“It is equally important that companies make sure people are kept safe.

“It is a much-valued part of the local economy. I look forward to when the Rovers Tye reopens.”

Update

The Rovers Tye was set to reopen at Thursday 5pm but this has now been postponed again.

It is not clear yet when the pub will reopen.
