POLICE have launched an investigation into a sexual assault which happened in Colchester.

Officers were called to Osborne Street shortly after 10am on Sunday, July 28, following concerns for a woman.

When they arrived she disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted after spending the evening in the city centre.

It’s believed that the assault took place close to Abbey Field.

The victim is continuing to receive support from officers and wider support services.

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood said: “We are working quickly to investigate this sexual assault and along with our partner agencies, are supporting the victim.

“We are appealing to anyone who may recognise this man to contact us so that we can speak with him.

“I’d equally encourage the man to contact us directly.”

Enquires remain ongoing.
