These unearthed pictures from the Gazette archive show what the city looked like in the 1960s and 1970s. 

It was a time when the town, as it was then, looked very different to how it is now.

Traffic still went through the town centre, the market was uncovered and cinemas were the big entertainment.

Over the two decades Colchester saw huge change as new ways of living came to the forefront.
