A STUDENT has thanked her four-legged friend after achieving 'paw-some' results in her A-Levels.
Elsie English, who studied at Colchester Sixth Form, was astonished when she opened her report card and saw straight A's and A*'s.
The student, who joined the college from Manningtree High School, ripped open the brown envelope with her mum, dad and dog Nellie, who helped her through her exams.
Elsie said: "Nellie opened the results beside me and she was also featured a lot in my A-Level art pieces and was the subject matter a lot of the time.
"When I opened my results she heard me scream and I think I freaked her out a bit."
Nellie also supported Elsie when she was having a bad day and helped her through the exams.
She said: "One time I had a really bad day in January and I thought 'I don't think I can do this'.
"However, when I came home and hugged her and cuddled her I then thought that she has always been sort of happy to see me and that I've always done Nellie proud."
Elsie received an A* in English Literature, an A* in French and an A in Art as well as an A* in her EPQ project.
She said: "I didn't believe it because I thought that I was going to get B's but it was wonderful feeling really when I saw my results and I'm just really happy to be moving on to the next stage.
"I never really thought I was capable of being a linguist and this has proven to me that I can do more than what I originally thought I can."
She will be moving on to do English and Modern Languages at Sheffield University, where she will continue to learn French and Spanish.
Elsie was just one of the many students who received amazing grades at Colchester Sixth Form.
The year group consisting of nearly 1500 students achieved a pass rate of approximately 97 per cent after their time at the college starting in 2022.
There were 16 different subject areas which achieved a 100 per cent pass rate and over 90 per cent of 18-year-olds at the college achieved 3 or more A-Levels or equivalent qualifications.
Jo Cadman, the new college principal, said: “Our students’ achievements are once again very impressive and I congratulate them for their levels of engagement, resilience and hard work.
"It’s important to remember that this group of students had a really difficult time when they were starting their GCSEs during the Covid period. They’ve done so well.
"This has been a great year for the college and its students – they made a huge contribution to our ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED grade earlier this year and it’s really pleasing to see their hard work rewarded with such fantastic results.
"It’s also a great send-off for outgoing college principal Ian MacNaughton – it’s lovely to see his 27 years at the helm capped by such success.”
