COLCHESTER United boss Danny Cowley says he would like to further add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Friday night.

The U’s have already brought in 11 new players this summer but there could be more new additions, ahead of the deadline.

Cowley is keen to further bolster his options but players are likely to have to depart, before that happens.

U’s boss Cowley said: “We’re still probably one or two light on where we want to be.

“Robbie (Cowling) has been brilliant and supportive all the way through and allowed us to use the money that we’ve created; you have to credit the academy for that as well.

“Some of the money for the likes of Noah (Chilvers) and Jayden Fevrier goes back into the academy and we know how important the academy is to our long-term success as a football club.

“If we think we can add and complement the group, then we’ll obviously try to do that.

“I think you're always building.

“I said to my dad the other day, this is my 16th year as a manager and I've always been two players away!

“You're continually trying to improve and make the team and squad better.”

Cowley admits it is likely players will have to leave before Colchester make any further additions.

Matt Jay and Will Greenidge have both been linked with moves away from the JobServe Community Stadium, before the window shuts at 11pm on Friday night.

“We would like to do a bit more work,” said Cowley.

“To do that, we probably have to move out.

“We know what we need just to find that balance.

“That's what you're always looking for.

“If you can find the balance in the group.

“In League Two there are so many different challenges and the challenges can look so different from week to week.”
