YOGIS will be able to get their tree pose on under a giant 3D artwork installation depicting the Earth’s surface.
Colchester Castle unveiled Gaia, a captivating six-metre diameter touring artwork, set inside the museum back in July.
In September yoga fans will be able to take on a “serene and unforgettable” experience in exclusive after-hours sessions.
The two events will take place on September 6 and 13 where yogis can practise under the breathtaking artwork.
The sessions, starting at 6pm, will offer a unique perspective on our planet through the detailed NASA imagery featured in Gaia.
Crafted by the talented artist Luke Jerram, the mesmerising piece aims to bring the Earth’s beauty to life, offering visitors a unique perspective on our planet.
Natalie Sommers, Colchester Council’s heritage boss, expressed her enthusiasm for the event.
She said: “I am delighted to see Colchester Castle hosting such a
unique event.
“The combination of yoga and the awe-inspiring Gaia installation offers our community a chance to not only engage in physical wellbeing but also to reflect on our connection to the Earth.
“This event beautifully aligns with our commitment to promoting both cultural enrichment and healthy living in Colchester.”
The artwork is 2.1 million times smaller than the real Earth, with each centimetre of the sculpture representing 21km of the Earth’s surface.
By standing 181m away, visitors can view the Earth as it appears from the moon.
To enhance the immersive experience, the installation is accompanied by a specially composed surround sound piece by Bafta award-winning composer Dan Jones.
Tickets for the after-hours yoga sessions are priced at £9 per person and must be booked in advance.
To secure your spot, please call Colchester Castle at 01206 282939 between 10am and 4.30pm.
