COLCHESTER Council has addressed confusion over a buffet site set to open at a multimillion-pound development in the city.

It was previously reported through a council press release that the Nines Global Buffet business would be opening a restaurant at Northern Gateway Leisure Park.

It was then announced last year that Joyato Sushi and Grill would be taking on a unit at the park.

Nines Global Buffet offers a wide range of global dishes and ingredients under one restaurant whilst Joyato Sushi and Grill focuses on delivering authentic Japanese cuisine.

The massive development is just off the A12 and still has two restaurant units and one storage facility left to lease.

Businesses currently open at the park include the likes of Hollywood Bowl, Slim Chickens, Greggs, and Wendy's.

There is also a 90-room Travelodge also opened at the leisure park in July, and a Puttstars adventure golf centre, but there was no other information regarding a Nines Global Buffet.

Recently, the Gazette was asked by residents what was happening regarding the buffet.

It has since been confirmed there was never going to be one.

A spokesman for Nines Global Buffet has confirmed the brand was never joining the £65million complex.

They said: “We have clarified with the Colchester site management and the landlord that it would never be Nines Global Buffet opening at the Colchester site.

“It will be a Joyato Sushi and Grill instead.”

Colchester Council has elaborated and confirmed where the confusion may have stemmed from.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that Joyato Sushi and Grill, which is part of the same company as Nines Global Buffet, will be opening at Colchester Leisure Park.

“Joyato Sushi and Grill offers a fusion of all-you-can-eat sushi and Japanese grill.

“We are confident that this will be a fantastic addition to the range of dining options available at Colchester Leisure Park.

“We understand there may have been some confusion regarding the opening of Nines Global Buffet.

“Initially, it was communicated to us that Nines Global Buffet would be the incoming establishment.

"However, we were subsequently informed by the developer's leasing team that this information was incorrect.

“We can confirm that the restaurant set to join Colchester Leisure Park is, in fact, Joyato Sushi and Grill, which is part of the same company as Nines Global Buffet.

"We regret any confusion caused by this error, and we look forward to the new dining experience that Joyato Sushi and Grill will bring to Colchester Leisure Park.”

There are other businesses still yet to open at the Northern Gateway Leisure Park such as a 12-screen Cineworld with a Starbucks concession.

However, there is some uncertainty about the cinema's future as some Cineworld sites across the UK are closing down.
