COLCHESTER United and Accrington Stanley will now work closely with Lancashire Police following the racism allegation that occurred during in the League Two game between the two sides.

Following talks with the Stanley board, the police will liaise with both clubs after an alleged racist remark from the home crowd aimed towards U's striker Samson Tovide was reported in the closing stages of the match at the Wham Stadium, on Saturday.

 

Writing on social media, AccStanley FC Police said: ‘Following discussions with the ASFC board today we will be working closely with #ASFC and #CUFC in relation to the allegation made during the game on Saturday to establish if there are any offences!’

Accrington chairman Andy Holt confirmed on social media: ‘To deal properly and openly with the racism allegation we have asked the police to review our investigation findings’.

 

Mr Holt had previously stated on Sunday that his club have extensively looked into the racism allegation following EFL protocol and have found that they and their fans have 'no case to answer'.

Colchester promptly issued a club statement on Saturday night condemning any form of racism, while Accrington Stanley stated they will not tolerate instances of discriminatory or prejudiced behaviour.
