Here are some of the biggest road closures across north and mid Essex over the coming weeks, with one road to close for almost a year.


Elmstead Road, Colchester, will be closed from a point approximately 25m northeast of its junction with Capon Road to its end, approximately 40m. The closure is scheduled to commence on September 16 2024 for 351 days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while site compound is in place for major works being undertaken by Essex County Council.


Mersea Road, Peldon in the City of Colchester, will be closed from a point approximately 860m northwest of its junction with Colchester Road for approximately 20m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on October 2 2024 for three days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by Anglian Water.


Straight Road, Boxted in the City of Colchester, will be closed from its junction with East Side to its junction with Hobbs Drive approximately 530m. The closure is scheduled to commence on September 30 2024 for three days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while drainage and ironworks replacement works are undertaken by Essex County Council.


Harwich Road/Lonborn Hill, Bradfield; Spinnels Hill, Wix; Harwich Road/Wrabness Road, Wrabness & Wrabness Road/Main Road, Ramsey in the District of Tendring, will be closed from the junction with The Street to the junction with A120 approximately 8150m. The closure is scheduled to commence on October 7 2024 for five days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while drainage works are undertaken by Essex County Council.


Southminster Road/Tillingham Road, Asheldham & Tillingham Road, Tillingham in the District of Maldon, will be closed from the junction with Green Lane to the junction with Reddings Lane approximately 2900m. The closure is scheduled to commence on October 1 2024 for three days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while drainage investigation and jetting works are undertaken by Essex County Council.


Station Road, Wickham Bishops in the District of Maldon, will be closed from its junction with Langford Road to its junction with Maldon Road approximately 1040m. The closure is scheduled to commence on September 30 2024 for three days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.


Harwich Road/Landermere Road, Thorpe-le-Soken in the District of Tendring, will be closed from the junction with Golden Lane to the junction with High Street approximately 1675m. The closure is scheduled to commence on October 1 2024 for four days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.


Stambourne Road, Great Yeldham in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Ridgewell Road for approximately 1440m in a westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on September 16 2024 for ten days.
