ZOE Newson is celebrating after securing powerlifting silver for Great Britain at the Paralympic Games, in Paris.
The 32-year-old para powerlifter from East Bergholt was second in the women’s -45kg category with a best lift of 109kg, at Porte de la Chapelle Arena.
She said: “I don’t really know how I’m feeling. Good, happy, emotional, a bit of everything.
“It was very different to Tokyo but it was good. Once I get my first or second, I’m alright as I get a lot calmer. By my second or third, I’m waving to the crowd.
“It has been great. Paris has been a great Paralympics, I’m glad to come away with this.”
Newson admits it took a few seconds for her achievement to sink in, following a successful challenge on her third lift.
She was initially adjudged to have fouled with the final lift of 109kg she needed for second.
However, after she and her team appealed and secured the silver medal.
“I didn’t realise, it didn’t come on the screen but we heard the crowd start cheering," added Newson, who twice won bronze at London 2012 and Rio 2016.
“Then we saw it on the screen and lost it. My boy and my fiancé are in the crowd so I got quite emotional.”
