Colchester Museums Development Foundation is encouraging people to consider leaving a legacy gift.
The foundation, now three years old, is dedicated to preserving and sharing Colchester's rich heritage.
Legacy gifts are vital for funding research, educational programmes, and conservation efforts.
Councillor Natalie Sommers, portfolio holder for communities, heritage and public protection, said: "During Remember a Charity Week, consider the impact you can make on future generations.
"By including Colchester Museums in your will, you will create a legacy that ensures our cultural heritage endures.
"Together, let's protect and celebrate the history that makes our city special."
The foundation also offers other ways to contribute, including donations and symbolic adoptions of museum objects.
Prices for adoptions start at just £10.
The foundation's work is part of the wider Remember a Charity Week, which runs from September 9 to 15.
The annual campaign aims to raise awareness of charitable organisations and the various ways people can support them.
