POLICE are looking into reports of men approaching girls in Colchester after incidents over the weekend.

Officers received reports of a man approaching and following a victim at about 10pm on Friday.

The man "followed the victim in Monkwick Avenue before leaving the scene along Queen Elizabeth Way".

A second report happened at about 10pm on Saturday, with the victim being "followed in Queen Elizabeth Way and Prince Phillip Road before leaving in an unknown direction".

Both victims said the man following them was alone.

One man was described as five foot ten inches tall, slim, with short black hair and moustache. He was wearing a black puffer jacket, black jogging bottoms and black trainers.

The second man was described as five foot eight inches tall, slim, with black hair and no facial hair.

He was wearing a black long-sleeved top and a black gilet, with black jogging bottoms.

Councillor for Shrub End and Berechurch ward, Dave Harris said: “The police have been round and are asking for CCTV for anyone walking around, but I couldn’t see anything.

“The residents are concerned and anyone who knows anything they should contact the police.

“Make sure loved ones take notice and look after themselves and anyone who is worried about walking alone should travel in a pair.”

Police want to hear from anyone with information or doorbell footage that will help our investigation into reports of men approaching girls in the Monkwick area of Colchester.

District commander Colin Cox said: “If you think you have more information about these incidents, or recognise these descriptions, we want to hear from you.

“We believe these may be descriptions of separate men or the same man, and we are following multiple lines of enquiry to establish further details of these incidents.

“Our officers and partner agencies will also be visible in the area today and the coming days to reassure the community and further our investigation.”
