THE building which houses a Brazilian steakhouse has been put up for sale - but the popular restaurant will remain open.

The Preto restaurant has been on Colchester High Street since 2016 when it took over from what used to be Café Rouge.

Colchester’s Preto restaurant is one of six of the company's locations and the only one which is outside of London.

The High Street building is on the market with a guide price of £850,000.

Listed on Rightmove, the description says: “The property is arranged over basement, ground and three upper floors to provide a ground floor restaurant with ancillary accommodation throughout the remainder of the property.”

Castle ward councillor Richard Kirkby-Taylor said: “Hopefully, just because the ownership is changing hands doesn’t mean the tenant is moving out."

Preto has confirmed the restaurant will continue to operate despite the building being put up for sale.

A spokesman said: “We currently rent, so the business itself is not being sold.

“We don't really know why they are selling the building.”
