A viral treatment from Asia has made its way to us and it might be one of the most relaxing things I have ever done.
The Japanese head spa combines spa-like rituals with a deep cleanse of the scalp and has taken the internet by storm.
Earlier this year, an award-winning beauty clinic in Colchester added the service, making it one of the first ones in Essex.
I have never considered myself to be a huge fan of fancy-sounding spa treatments and massages, but I wanted to see if the hype is worth it.
Evie Davies Aesthetics and Beauty Academy is nestled on the outskirts of Colchester, in Dudley Road, and I was welcomed by a lovely member of her staff ahead of my treatment.
The first step, after you have made yourself comfortable, is a scalp analysis.
With a magnifying camera, my beauty expert took a look at my head, not your everyday sight, but fascinating, nonetheless.
She talked to me through what we saw on a monitor, and what to expect to see after the treatment.
Then it was time to relax.
In an extra room, the beauty clinic has a designated spa with a comfortable lounger, which has a sink on the head end.
I got comfortable, closed my eyes and listened to calming music, ready to relax after a long day of work.
The staff started with a gentle head massage using her fingers and combs, going over to gently pulling my hair.
In my opinion, the water had a perfect temperature, not too warm, not too cold, as she continued to wash my hair.
A mint scrub was a very nice touch throughout the massage, as she continued with different massage tools.
The highlight of the whole treatment, only because that was the one thing I had wondered about, was the water massage, where small water jets move up and down your scalp, led by a special metal construct that looks like a halo.
Throughout the treatment, gentle steam was added, which I would say smelled like eucalyptus, but added to the cosiness and comfort.
Following the treatment, another scalp analysis showed the effects, with a much clearer and much better blood flow.
The whole treatment worked miracles and might even turn me into a more frequent spa visitor.
It is a great idea for everyone who wants to treat themselves or others to a moment of relaxation.
