DANNY Cowley admits he was left ‘ashamed and angry’ after his Colchester United side conceded two late goals to draw 3-3 at ten-man Morecambe this afternoon.

The U’s looked like they were heading to victory against League Two’s bottom club, after goals from Owura Edwards, Samson Tovide and Lyle Taylor had cancelled out Ben Tollitt’s opener for the hosts.

But strikes from Callum Jones and substitute Marcus Dackers rescued a point for the Shrimps, who played for more than half the game with ten men after right-back Luke Hendrie was sent off late in the first half.

U’s boss Cowley said: “I’m pretty angry and disappointed.

“I thought it was an erratic performance by us.

“We had complete control in the game.

“We were 3-1 up against ten men and cutting through them at will.

“They had nothing in the game, they get a penalty and that changes the whole momentum I think.

“It was a really erratic performance by us and you have to remember, in the first 20 minutes we didn’t play well either.

“We didn’t start well and we didn’t finish well and when you don’t do those two things, you don’t win.”

Colchester had chances to win the game late on, with Harry Anderson inexplicably blasting over from two yards in the closing stages.

Cowley continued: “Since I’ve been here really, we’ve found some really bizarre ways to drop points and we’ve done it in so many different ways.

“We’ve changed a lot of players and last year we were young and a lot of players were living it for the first time so you could understand, to a certain extent.

“But we have to take full responsibility for that.

“The supporters left their house at four or five in the morning and they were still clapping us, at the end and that made me feel really ashamed actually, because it was such an unprofessional performance.

“I’m ashamed of the performance and we’re all part of that performance.

“I’m ashamed of myself first and foremost and I’m ashamed, disappointed and angry.

“We’ll try and pick the bones out of it and take some learning from it, I suppose.”
