Following the opening of FINAA, a new Indian restaurant near St Botolph's, I decided to give it a try to see if it lives up to its promise of great value and flavour.
After settling into a cosy corner, I took a moment to browse their extensive menu.
Alongside Indian classics like chicken tikka masala, they also offer a range of starters such as onion pakoras, chicken tikka, lamb seekh kebab, and more. With plenty to choose from, there's something to suit any palate.
For my meal, I started with their tandoori chicken wings, priced at £7.95 for six pieces. These arrived sizzling and packed with flavour.
The wings were perfectly cooked, with a smoky char and a tender inside.
What made them even better was the freshly made mint chutney, a house specialty, that paired beautifully with the tandoori spices.
For the main course, I went for the chicken tikka masala at £12.95, paired with a garlic naan at £3.50.
The tikka masala was a generous portion with a rich, creamy sauce that struck the perfect balance of spice and flavour. The naan was soft, warm, and garlicky, perfect for mopping up the rich sauce.
We were also treated to complimentary poppadoms with mango chutney and that same mint chutney, a nice touch that started the meal on a high note.
The elegant ambience was further enhanced by soft classical music playing in the background, adding to the restaurant's warm, inviting feel.
Service was excellent throughout. Melissa, who took our order, checked in on us multiple times, making sure everything was to our liking without being intrusive. Her friendly demeanour added to the overall experience.
The total for my meal came to £24 – a fair price given the quality and portion size.
As a nice bonus, we were given coupons for 10 per cent off our next visit and a free shot on the house — a great incentive to return soon.
Overall, Finaa is a wonderful addition to Colchester’s dining scene, offering authentic Indian flavours, attentive service, and a cosy atmosphere.
For anyone looking to enjoy a sit-down Indian meal, this place is worth a visit.
