ORGANISERS hope Colchester’s culture and hospitality sector will enjoy a boost in activity this autumn with an array of events before the end of the year.

The city will host events including the Cosmic Castle, Christmas lights parade, and Enlightened Moments over the next three months, with the Colchester Leisure Board having met at The George Hotel on Friday to discuss how to maximise opportunities for tourism and footfall.

Steve Mannix, who chairs the board and is also the director of the Mercury Theatre, said: “We’re all very keen that we make the most of what Colchester has to offer.

“We all know that city and town centres are changing across the country.

“Arts, cultural and leisure providers in Colchester are working with our retailers to ensure that our we offer something for everyone”.

James Young from Colchester Amphora Events, Nifemi Wilson-Adu from Essex University’s student union, Vincent Geaves from the business improvement district, Nicky Best from Open Road, and Colchester MP Pam Cox were also at the meeting.

She said: “I love the fact that this board takes an upbeat and practical approach to making life better for Colchester businesses, residents and visitors.

"I look forward to working with them in the coming months.”
