DANNY Cowley has revealed he has watched Colchester United’s eventful draw at Morecambe back three times – and says it has been a ‘therapeutic process’.

The U’s head into this weekend’s home clash with Tranmere Rovers aiming for a response, after allowing a two-goal lead to slip in the final minutes to draw against their ten-man hosts.

Cowley and his players were left devastated at the final whistle at the Mazuma Stadium after drawing 3-3 against League Two’s bottom side but the Colchester boss says they have evaluated what has happened and are ready to bounce back.

Cowley said: “I watched it back three times – once on the coach on the way home and twice on the Sunday.

“You never want to have that feeling again and you have to work out why and make sure it never happens again.

“I think by the time we’d worked out the whys and the mistakes that we’d made, we were then able to share that with the group on Monday and as a consequence, move forward.

“It was pretty much a therapeutic process that you have to go through, watching and analysing it and helping the players.

“Ultimately it helps you and we were able to move on – we made a good response on Tuesday and we have another opportunity to respond, on Saturday.

“We have a lot of trust in the group that we’ve put together and I think it has the makings of a really good squad and a good team.

“What we have to do is accelerate that process; that’s our role and that’s what we work really, really hard to do, both with our on-field coaching on the training pitch but also with our off-field coaching and the work that we do in the video room, whether that be with the team or the individual.”

Colchester tomorrow face a Tranmere side who up until last weekend’s defeat at Gillingham had enjoyed an unbeaten start to the league season.

“We expect a really tough challenge,” said Cowley.

“Nigel Adkins is a really experienced manager, a successful manager and a super positive guy.

“They’ve assembled a good squad, a very experienced squad with lots of League Two knowhow.

“They’re a very competitive team who can mix their game up and can be a real threat in wide areas.

“They’ll have been really disappointed to have lost their game against Gillingham, particularly when they’ve dominated so much of the second half.

“But this is the nature of League Two football and we’ve seen it happen to ourselves, this season.

“It’s not always the best team that wins and what you have to do is work out how to be an effective team.

“We’re trying to be a team that’s really exciting to watch but really difficult to play against.”
