We have put together five great walks which will be thoroughly enjoyed with the autumn colours coming through.
As autumn starts, there are so many walks that display the natural beauty in Colchester and the surrounding areas - here are five we picked out.
Dedham
Dedham Vale sits on the Essex and Suffolk border.
Dedham has plenty of scenery as you walk alongside the boating lake with a long walk down the lake and trees which will be displaying autumnal colours.
With various routes you can take and diverse wildlife to go along with the picturesque lake, this is a hotspot for many walkers.
High Woods Country Park
The country park is covered with trees of all kinds, making it a brilliant route during autumn to encapsulate the changing of the season.
The park boasts a sparse area, with the possibility of walking short and long distances.
With loads of tracks and paths to follow it can be an enjoyable walking spot for dog walkers and those who are looking to capture the beauty of autumn.
Wivenhoe Trail
Starting in Wivenhoe near to the train station, the trail has the railway track one side and the River Colne on the other.
The trail continues for around five miles, going up towards the University of Essex and is popular with students looking to explore the area.
Covered with colourful trees above, the trail is another great choice for an autumn walk.
Users of the Wivenhoe Trail can follow it along the whole way or there is a cut through which comes back into Wivenhoe, close to the quayside where there are pubs available for a drink or two.
Castle Park
Colchester's Castle Park is another great spot which is popular with so many who frequent in the city centre.
With the beauty of the castle and an array of green space as well as tree coverage, it possesses natural beauty, but especially during autumn.
The park is one of the top attraction within Colchester and hosts many people who walk in the park taking it all in on a daily basis.
Abberton Reservoir
The reservoir is a popular site for bird watchers, with a multitude of different species on display and over 280 different species spotted here.
The area is a popular one for many who want to go for a walk and take in all of the scenery.
Due to its large size, it can be quite peaceful due to not seeing many people around on certain parts of the walk.
