DANNY Cowley says Colchester United will ‘attack’ their Bristol Street Motors Trophy game at Leyton Orient tonight as they aim to maintain their winning form in the competition.

The U’s beat MK Dons in last month’s opener and are targeting a second Group E win – and their first away victory of the season - at Brisbane Road (kick-off 7pm).

They will visit an O’s side who were beaten 2-1 at home by Arsenal under-21s, in their group opener.

Colchester head coach Cowley said: “It’s a tough game against Leyton Orient.

“It won’t be easy, as they’re a very good League One team.

“But we’ve started well in that competition, so we’ll attack it on Tuesday.

“They’re together and fighting and it’s one loss in eight now.

“We’re becoming more competitive but if we want to be what we want to be, we need to turn draws into wins.”

Cowley made 11 changes to his starting line-up for Colchester’s group opener against MK Dons and the U’s boss is likely to make a number of alterations to his side again tonight.

Lyle Taylor, Aaron Donnelly and Jamie McDonnell are all unavailable as they are away on international duty while winger Owura Edwards is still sidelined, with a hamstring injury.

But midfielder Teddy Bishop could return to the squad after missing the U’s last two games with an ankle knock and academy striker James Sasere is also set to travel.

JK Gordon is pushing for a start after impressing as a substitute for Colchester, in their last two games.

The former Crystal Palace youngster’s last start for the U’s came in their Bristol Street Motors Trophy win over MK Dons, on September 17.

“I think JK has done great twice now, off the bench,” said Cowley.

“He was a threat on the bench and obviously assisted the goal on Tuesday and it won’t be long before he’s bringing goals to his game, as well.”

Cowley says he is also pleased with the recent form of midfielder Arthur Read, who has started Colchester’s last two games having found himself out of the side earlier this season.

Cowley said: “Arthur has done well in the last two.

“He was a little bit slow to start the season but he played well at Port Vale and he played well (against Carlisle) both in and out of possession, which is so important for us.

“There is good competition for places in the middle of the pitch which is important, because we know that we have lots and lots of games.”
