TEENAGE striker James Sasere is set to be named in Colchester United's squad for their Bristol Street Motors Trophy game at Leyton Orient tonight.

The academy forward, who netted for the U's under-18s in their 3-0 Premier League Cup win over QPR at the weekend, will travel to Brisbane Road with the first-team squad for the Group E fixture (kick-off 7pm).

Sasere, who is a first-year scholar at the U’s, follows in the footsteps of academy team-mate Lennox Emery in being promoted to Colchester's senior squad for an EFL Trophy game, this season.

U's head coach Danny Cowley told the club's YouTube channel: "He's done fantastically well in the 18s and already has eight goals, this season.

"He has real pace and loves scoring goals.

"He's a kid that wants to run in behind; you see so many forwards in modern-day football that want to come to the ball but he's always looking to be off the shoulder out of the eyeline of the defender and makes lots of really intelligent runs and has a real turn of pace.

"So it's great to add him to the group as well."

Cowley watched Sasere in action for Colchester’s under-18s against QPR at Florence Park, on Saturday morning.

The promising forward has scored an impressive ten goals for the under-18s so far this season – six in league and cup games and four in friendlies.
