A COLCHESTER road has been left under a puddle of water sparking concerns children walking to school could be drenched by passing cars.

Boadicea Way, in Shrub End, is now under five inches of water after heavy rain in recent days.

The area of road affected is close to many different schools, including Phillip Morant and Iceni Academy.

Councillor for Shrub End ward, Dave Harris said: “It flooded overnight, but when I went there about ten days ago the water was up to the top of the drain cover.

“I’m really concerned, there were school children walking past and a lorry came through and it nearly got them on the side of the road but luckily the teachers kept them away.

“It has flooded in the past and the council sent a drainage gulper out.

“A couple of residents have called me saying they haven’t seen a drain sucker for years and it begs belief if they had used one.

“They should have it come round on a schedule to sort it out and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “Tens of thousands of drains are being cleared across Essex as our crews prepare for heavy rain this autumn and winter.

“Boadicea Way has been added to our ad hoc jetting programme and will be attended in the week commencing October 21.

“We encourage residents to report any blocked drains or flooding concerns through the Tell Us webpage at www.essexhighways.org/tell-us
