DANNY Cowley believes Colchester United's upcoming fixture break has come at a good time.

The U's do not have a game this weekend, with their scheduled match at Fleetwood Town postponed due to international call-ups.

Colchester have just completed a punishing run of playing four matches in ten days, three of which have been away from home.

U’s head coach Cowley feels it will be good for them to recharge their batteries, with their next game a home clash with Cheltenham Town on Saturday week.

"I think it comes at a good time," said Cowley, who is likely to watch Colchester's next opponents Cheltenham take on Swindon Town on Saturday.

"We've just emptied a load of them out in the last ten days, with four games in quick succession.

"I don't like weekends without football but I do think it comes at a good time, because it does give us an opportunity to freshen the group up.

"It lets us recharge their batteries and then our full focus turns to Cheltenham."

Colchester’s reverse at Walsall last month is the only time they have tasted defeat in all competitions since late August, when they were beaten by Premier League side Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

The U’s are proving a tough nut to crack for opposition sides and Cowley is pleased with their competitiveness but now wants to see them become a winning team.

“We’re fighting hard and it’s one loss in nine,” added Cowley.

“This is something that we’re really proud of and we’re becoming a more competitive team, we’re becoming a more resilient team.

“We’re a team that can go until the end, we’re a team that can come from behind and come back in games, which is a sign of the character of the group.

“Our ambition is to become a winning team.

“Of course, with the amount of enforced changes that we had to make at a really well-run League One club in Leyton Orient and then not have a game at the weekend and be really flat out is always going to be really tough.”
