COLCHESTER United's on-loan defender Aaron Donnelly featured as Northern Ireland under-21s thrashed Azerbaijan under-21s 5-0 in their UEFA U21 Championship qualifier.

The on-loan Nottingham Forest youngster played the full 90 minutes at Ballymena Showgrounds, helping his country win their Group F qualifier.

He provided the assist for JJ McKiernan's second-half goal, taking the corner that led to the goal.

Donnelly has made five appearances for Colchester since joining on loan in August and registered his first league start for them in their draw at his former club, Port Vale.

Fellow Colchester loanee Jamie McDonnell, who made his Football League debut for Colchester earlier this month after coming on as a second-half substitute in their 1-1 draw at Port Vale, was an unused substitute in the match.
