COLCHESTER United might have had the weekend off but they still had a number of players currently out on loan in action, looking to impress in non-league football.

The Gazette takes a look at how they fared, in their most recent matches.

FRANKIE TERRY

PROMISING young U’s defender Frankie Terry helped Braintree Town progress to the FA Cup first round proper for the first time in eight years.

The Iron beat neighbours Bishop’s Stortford 1-0, thanks to Inih Effiong’s early goal.

Writing on social media, Terry said: ‘Back to back cleanos and into the hat for next round. Thank you again to the fans class as always’.

Terry played the full 90 minutes for Braintree and was voted by fans as their man of the match on X, securing 38.6 per cent of the online vote.

The defender will discover who Braintree will face in the FA Cup first round when the draw takes place tonight, at 7pm.

Terry joined Braintree on a month’s loan from Colchester last month and has made eight league and cup appearances for them, to date.

The 20-year-old made his Colchester debut in October 2023 and has made four senior appearances for the U’s, to date.

WILL GREENIDGE

DEFENDER Will Greenidge played the full 90 minutes as AFC Hornchurch drew 2-2 at Salisbury City, in their latest National League South game.

The Urchins came back twice in the game to take a share of the spoils.

Former U’s forward Femi Akinwande also featured for Hornchurch, at Salisbury.

Greenidge joined Hornchurch on loan from Colchester until January on September 1 and has made four appearances for them, to date.

The 22-year-old has made 35 appearances for the U's since joining them in January, 2023.

OSCAR THORN

COLCHESTER United academy player Oscar Thorn suffered a disappointing day in the FA Cup.

The young winger’s loan club Chelmsford City were on the wrong end of a 4-0 defeat at National League leaders Barnet, to bow out of the competition at the fourth qualifying round stage.

Thorn created a great early chance for the Clarets at The Hive, with his fine run down the right resulting in a cross which Jordan Greenidge got a flick on it but saw the ball bounce wide.

Thorn played for 81 minutes of the tie for the National League South side, before being replaced by Jake Hyde.

The Clarets were forced to play for the last quarter of the tie with only ten men, following Arthur Penney’s red card.

Former U’s players Cameron James and Ted Collins both also featured for Chelmsford at Barnet.

HAKEEM SANDAH, KAI REDGRAVE, MAX JOLLIFFE AND SAMUEL KUFFOUR

THE Colchester United academy quartet all featured for loan club Maldon and Tiptree in their 2-1 win over Brightlingsea Regent.

Kai Redgrave, Max Jolliffe and Samuel Kuffour all played the full 90 minutes for the Jammers in the Pitching In Isthmian League division north game, while Hakeem Sandah (pictured above) was replaced near the end.

The quartet are all aiming to impress while on loan at Maldon, where they are playing under U’s coach Dave Huzzey and player-coach, former Colchester midfielder Anthony Wordsworth.
