NEW road and speed restrictions could be implemented in various Colchester streets.

Essex Highways has released a traffic regulation order proposal for a No Waiting at Any Time restriction and 20mph speed restrictions in multiple roads in a housing estate in the suburb of Myland.

Olympic Boulevard would be subject to the No Waiting at Any Time restriction, this would be implemented from a 12.5-meter point with its junction with Flame Way and Spirit Drive.

A No Entry except for cyclists’ restriction would also be added to the road from its junction with Mill Road roundabout for approximately 51.5 metres.

It is noted in an Essex highways intention notice that the road currently has “two bus stop clearways in place, however, there will not be any bus services along” the road and “these will be removed”.

The 20mph restriction would be implemented in Altius Chase, Courage Drive, Endeavour Way, Flame Way, Fortius Mews, Olympic Boulevard, Spirit Drive, and private drives Citius Parade, podium Close, and Venture Chase.

A statement of reasons document listed on Essex Highways’ website explains the reason for the new proposal.

It said: “This will facilitate a safer pedestrian environment and improve safety for all residents, children, and visitors to the area.

“It is Essex County Council's policy that new housing estate roads are constructed to ensure, as far as is possible, that vehicle speeds are 20mph or below.

“This is done via the introduction of a 20mph zone and a variety of physical measures.”
