Rim-Jhim Spice promises to serve up authentic cuisine to the people of Colchester.

And when I visited, which coincided with National Curry Week, it did not disappoint.

The restaurant, in Villa Road, won the Curry Life Awards 2023 and repeated the feat in 2024.

The atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming, with soft music playing and a cosy, well-lit space filled with diners, even on a Thursday evening.

The staff were attentive, offering helpful suggestions based on my preferences, and the variety on the menu was impressive, with ample vegetarian options.

I began my meal with the Special Mix Starter (£8.95), a delightful combination of onion bhaji, chicken tikka, and lamb tikka.

The platter offered a nice mix of textures and flavours, making it ideal for those dining alone who want to try a bit of everything.

Each bite was flavourful and well-seasoned, setting the stage for the main course.

For my main, I chose the Chicken Biryani (£14.95), accompanied by a half portion of Lamb Bhuna instead of the usual vegetarian side, thanks to the accommodating staff.

The biryani was fragrant and full of flavour, while the lamb bhuna was rich and tender, though I would have preferred the lamb to be a little more tender.

A side of garlic naan (£4.20) complemented the meal perfectly, its soft texture and bold garlic flavour balancing the spiciness of the bhuna.

The portion sizes were generous, and the pricing fair, with the entire meal costing me £28.10.

The poppadoms with chutneys, offered as a complimentary appetizer, were a delightful bonus that added to the overall experience.

Rim-Jhim Spice offers a delicious, authentic taste of India, with attentive service and a menu that caters to all palates.

I would highly recommended for curry lovers and biryani enthusiasts alike.
