COLCHESTER Fringe Festival is set to return for 2024 next week, with ten days of entertainment at various locations in the city centre.
The festival will take over the city with performances at Headgate Theatre, Mercury Theatre, Colchester Arts Centre, Three Wise Monkeys, Firstsite, Lion Walk Shopping Centre, Coda and Patch.
Colchester Fringe Festival is an annual festival established in 2019 by Cameron Abbott-Betts and Steve Goatman.
However, due to Covid it did not hold its first event until 2021.
Organisers say the aim was to "support work by local emerging artists, whilst attracting performance companies to the town from across the UK and overseas.".
Now every Autumn, the event takes over a variety of venues within the city centre.
These include theatres, shops, pubs and nightclubs and fill them all with extraordinary artists from all corners of the globe.
The programme will feature theatre, comedy, drag, dance and family-friendly performances, with 66 acts in total performing up to seven times each and nearly 200 individual performances.
Some of the highlights of the programme include multi-award-winning Japanese theatre company Theatre Group GUMBO.
They return to Colchester with their theatrical comedy The Forest of Truth after winning a huge number of awards and sell-out performances at the 2023 festival.
Audiences can also expect entertainment in the form of stand-up comedy from across the country, drag artists at Colchester Arts Centre, a barber shop quartet in CODA and a comedy hypnotist at Three Wise Monkeys.
Fringe Festival 2024 starts on Friday, October 25 and will continue until Sunday, November 3.
Last year was the third edition of the Colchester Fringe Festival and was deemed a huge success, selling close to 3,000 tickets over four days.
Cameron said: “I am filled with immense pride and excitement for the vibrant array of performances we have in store for you.
“The Colchester Fringe Festival is more than just a series of performances, it is a platform for dialogue, connection, and community.
“It is a space where artists and audiences come together to share stories, challenge perspectives, and find common ground.
“We have always been a platform for the bold, the innovative, and the unconventional. This year is no exception. So, here’s to another year filled with creativity, inspiration and unforgettable experiences”.
Tickets for Colchester Fringe Festival 2024 are on sale now. Shows last for no longer than hour and tickets are £8 per show.
